Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We have an eager set of fourth and fifth graders who assist the younger students in the school at arrival and dismissal and give up their own free time outside of class to do this. They are often challenged with bringing students to and from classes that have needs or are simply very young and having a difficult time transitioning to the school environment. They also are assisting with students that are new to the country and have previously faced emotional challenges. Starting the school day can sometimes be difficult for these students and then presents a challenge to the older students who are the schools volunteers assisting them with getting to class.

The students came up with the idea of offering stress relief type incentives to the students to help them start their day off in school on happier note rather than them bringing them to class crying.

The stress relief toys, prizes, sharpeners, and erasers would be given to the older students to provide to younger students, or students that are differently abled who are having a difficult time entering the building and their classes. The students hope is that if they can give them a small token in the morning it might make a huge difference in their day. This community service project they seek to take on which would be to show kindness to other students and support a kinder school community would help the students receiving and giving the items in the morning and create a kinder school community.
