Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are diagnosed with intellectual disability and autism. They learn and respond positively to curriculum that is visual, kinesthetic and allows them to practice their skills repeatedly. They have difficulties learning in traditional ways but they feel proud when they are able to help others.

My students want to help make adapted books for students who need visual, tactile and sensory supports to engage with books.

Students in our school have a very difficult time accessing the content in books. A laminator will help make books more durable and my students with teacher support with learn to use a laminator, a hole punch and glue to create adapted books. Velcro pieces with help make the books accessible to the curriculum. These students are non-verbal and do not engage with materials, books, technology or toys in the typical ways. By getting a laminator the students will be able to make books to individualize to each students educational needs and this will also make them more durable so that they can be used for a long time. We will help them access all of the content they need to learn.
