Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is uniquely centered in a large city where many of the students who attend do not have grass or backyards. Our school has a beautiful lawn with trees and I would like to provide my students with blankets, pillows and games so that they can begin to grow a collective sense of belonging.

My hope is that by creating a space outdoors that is inviting and filled with interactive games, students will begin to cultivate community and interpersonal skills.

My students come from working class families, who often do not have grass areas in their homes. Taking special care to create outdoor areas that are inviting, and engaging will allow students to turn away from their phones and tune into their peer relations.
