Our suburban school is in our 11th year with nearly 1,200 students from a wide variety of backgrounds. If you visited our school you would hear many languages being spoken and see a colorful array of garments worn by students and staff alike as you walked across our campus. You would also see a lot of smiling faces because our school is a great place to be.
Even with 37% of our students listed as socioeconomically disadvantaged, we are building a strong community of learners.
We are a California Distinguished School, but the challenge remains to reach every student and produce confident, self-directed explorers.
I have turned to tech integration in my classroom to engage reluctant students and create new opportunities through video production. It is a medium they are drawn to and one I can easily use to develop a wide variety of literacy and critical thinking skills as they learn to tell an effective story, broadcast school news, or create documentary videos for online publication or even media contests. Our projects require team planning and collaboration so important life skills are embedded every step of the way.
My Project
A portable teleprompter will facilitate our video production in many ways. It will help the students behind the camera with the process of writing, editing, and rewriting scripts. It will help the on-camera students practice reading and speaking with fluency and expression. It will give all my students experience with industry-standard equipment and the ability to create high quality projects they'll be proud to share.
