My Students

I am a speech therapist and I work with 10-13 year-old students with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments. Most of the students on my caseload are diagnosed with ASD. Much of the therapy I do with my students is focused on functional communication, ADL (activities of daily living) skills, and prevocational activities. All of my students have individual and different needs so there is no "one size fits all" approach to therapy. Many of my students are interested in technology, literature, and art. They enjoy various activities on the iPad, reading books, and crafting. My students also enjoy music.

My Project

Teaching special education is very rewarding. My students all have individualized needs and different goals and these materials will allow me to make a difference in the lives on my students. The books will help me to provide great lessons on various skills such as sequencing, answering "wh questions," inferencing, identifying cause and effect relationships, and making predictions etc. The easel will provide my students with easy access to necessary visuals instead of working with various visuals on their cluttered decks. Furthermore, the ink and printer will give me the opportunity to print more worksheets, homework, visuals, etc, that will help my students to meet their speech and language goals at a faster rate.

"Communication is the essence of human life." Please help me to provide my students with the materials that they need and deserve in order to master their communication, speech, and language goals.
