My Students

I have 24 kindergarten students in a high poverty area. Many of my students come from broken homes, and they do not have resources that would afford them experiences that we take for granted. My students are awesome and they work really hard even though their home lives are hard. An amazing aspect of my class is the excitement we experience when someone achieves a goal! They inspire me as an educator, as I see them develop into future leaders and great conversationalists.

My Project

One thing that would really enhance our communication skills and class participation is the All About Today Activity Center. This colorful, interactive chart will be a great way to start the day and build beginning language skills. The pocket chart has over 100 word and number cards that let the whole class keep track of the days of the week, dates, months, and years. These concepts are all part of the kindergarten curriculum. There are also 30 Pick-A-Question cards designed to spark class discussion and reinforce key vocabulary words. I will use these cards everyday as part of my ESL lesson. After I model how to think about and answer the questions in complete sentences, my little scholars will get a chance to converse with their seat partners. From there I will call on volunteers to repeat what their partner talked about. Once children get into the routine of this opening day activity, it will not only boost their kindergarten readiness skills but their confidence as well.

The magnetic tiles will be a great asset to my geometry math lessons.

Symmetry is a fun activity we learn all year. We find how our own bodies are symmetrical, along with animal life such as butterflies and ladybugs. These translucent tiles will give my kids hours of independent building time.
