Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My special education, kindergarten class loves working with their new friends, but have so many learning standards that need to be mastered. These Common Core Standards centers will allow them to have the best of both worlds.

My students come from an urban area in New York that has a high immigrant population.

Many students come from single parent homes. This kindergarten class is comprised of special education and regular education in an inclusion class. There are students that wear leg braces, and some that need to receive occupational, as well as physical therapy.

My Project

These centers will add an element of fun and help my students learn how to socialize more appropriately. Their reading skills will grow, as well as their language and communication skills. While the students are actively engaged, I can test students one on one to track progress, as well as plan future lessons. My students will learn their sight words, letter recognition, as well as sequencing skills that are needed for the state test they will begin taking in the next few years. These skills will help them in their writing, which needs to be submitted monthly to pass kindergarten. They will be able to express themselves in their writing complete sentences, which they all have difficulty doing. Another Skill that this will help them and is in there phonemic awareness. Better phonemic awareness will have them easily read new words, as well as spell better.

My students already have such struggles they face when it comes to learning and fitting in.

These fun activity centers will add fun to their academics. The hands- on aspect will keep them motivated and interested.
