Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I've heard it a million times...." I'll just wait for the movie." UGH! How can I convince my students that the book is always better than the movie? Let's fill the shelves with books that were later turned into movies and let them decide!

My students are great group of kids that are always up for a new challenge!

Our school is located in a large urban city and has a mixed population of students. I teach 2 groups of students...one group has the highest reading scores in our grade and are always wanting new and and more intersting books to read. My other class is the lowest scoring kids in our grade and they struggle with reading. They are the hardest to motivate to read. I want all of my students to love reading, and I feel this is best accomplished when the have the opportunity to read a variety of books! I try to do this by having a well-stocked classroom library.

My Project

I am requesting, for our classroom library, a varitety of books that have been made into movies. My hope is that I can persuade my students to read the books before they see the movies, and convince them that reading the book instead of waiting for the movie is the better choice! I hear so many of them say they would rather just wait for the movie instead of read the book. It's hard to persuade them that the book is almost always better than the movie. With so many books being made into films these days, many students are missing out on reading great books because it is easier to see the movie. I feel they miss out not only some great storytelling, they don't get to use their imaginations as much if they just see the film.

By having these books readily available in our classroom, my hope is it will be easier to persuade my students to put off seeing the movie until they have read the book.

Hopefully I can convince them that reading the book first is a much more fufilling experience....and they can even eat popcorn while doing it!
