My Students

The kids I teach are high achieving students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. They have unique perspectives and are inquisitive, thoughtful, and anxious to be participants in the world. But right now, their grapple with the world is through the books they read.

As students taking a World Literature class, they want to read texts which mirror their diversity, and which stimulate their curiosity to engage in reflection and possibility which our current times provide.

They want to read books which are modern, insightful, and challenge their notions of what defines life, and literature.

My Project

Growing up is hard, and making sense out of it is even harder. Reading literature is a place where we can ask questions, reflect and sort out ideas in worlds which are similar and yet, totally different.

Kafka on the Shore will offer my students the opportunity to suspend belief, and in that suspension, the opportunity to grasp at belief.

This text will help my students understand how life is intricate, how we are connected to others, to animals, to nature, and in this connection, which mostly doesn't make sense, we make sense.

As a result of reading Kafka on the Shore, students will have a greater understanding of how to parallel and weave stories of their own.
