This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a Title l-funded, public school in Harlem. There is one general education class and one or two special education classes per grade, and many of our students are second language learners.

I have been teaching at my school for 20 years.

Five years ago I became the science teacher.

Over the past five years, more and more of the students are wanting to spend time in the science room, borrowing books and/or wanting to learn more about the materials in the classroom.

My Project

Anyone who has so thoughtfully donated to my projects in the past, and DonorChoose themselves, may wonder why I am asking for some items that I already received in February 2019? Does the date ring a bell?

Yep, in February 2019 we received some amazing, much-needed materials, which we were never able to use because the schools closed down.

Now when I've returned to the classroom, these materials are gone!!!

The students that work with me get worried when they spill some liquid or drop cuttings on the floor when harvesting the vegetables and herbs. They are kids and I don't want them to be concerned when they inadvertently make a mess. Having the cleaning equipment lets my students know that we can easily clean things up when we are done for the day. Further, they have fun cleaning together!

Lastly, to reach the minimum project amount, I've also add materials so we can test and fix the pH of the hydroponic tower. Our current materials are outdated.
