This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Working in a low-income community comes with many challenges. Many of my students live in shelters, are exposed to domestic case issues, and many other challenges that have impacted their learning. In spite of each child's own struggles within themselves and within their homes, they still have a love for learning and remain very persistent.
My students need a classroom that can support their thinking of academic success, with proper furniture and sensory tools to stimulate and support their sensory needs.
Proper classroom tools won’t only stimulate and meet their sensory needs, but they will support their learning as students will feel at their most comfortable. Every classroom tools should be carefully chosen with the students in mind, and I will appreciate being given the opportunity to show my students that even for something as simple a chair, they have been carefully thought of.
My Project
When students are uncomfortable, they are disruptive and unproductive. Flexible seating allows students to find comfortable positions throughout the classroom. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. Students learn better when they have a chance to work together. Flexible seating will provide my students not only with comfort but also with choice, collaboration, movement, and sensory input that it is all much needed in a classroom with such a large a variety of needs. Most of our students are in a classroom more than they are at home, so let us maximize their comfort and sensory input level to where they will demonstrate all their potential.
