Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a special education teacher working in a Title One School. This is a low-income area where the majority of my students are underprivileged. My school currently services approximately eight shelters that vary from homeless to drug rehabilitation centers.

Everyday, I come to work realizing that technology will move education farther and faster than ever before.

My students don't have the privilege of coming to school with technological devices and other materials of their own. Although my students face many personal challenges daily, I try to provide them with the best education possible. I want them to have access to all materials/resources that will allow them to learn and grow independently as the year evolves. My students mean the world to me! Their happiness is my happiness! With the help of the Donorschoose community, my students will have the chance to explore the innovations of the 21st century.

My Project

My students have a difficult time feeling comfortable while learning and reading. We recently received new students that got relocated from the recent hurricane in Puerto Rico. We were impacted by Hurricane Irma here in Florida. We know how hard it is to lose are most treasured items. However, we can't imagine how difficult it can be to leave your home behind. By creating a comfortable and inviting environment, these students will be more excited to read and learn. I always imagined having a classroom that fits the needs of every individual. A classroom library surrounded by a nice rug and flexible seating is a place where my students can feel both relaxed, happy and comfortable. It is a classroom that is inviting to every child who walks in. We are in need of a rug and bean bag seat for those new students and current students that feel more comfortable working at ground level. This will help my students feel relaxed and welcomed in a seated position in our classroom.

With your help, my classroom could become the classroom I always dreamed of.

These items would provide a more welcoming environment for our new students. It can become an environment that promotes learning through literacy, unity and student success.
