My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!

They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.

This has been a tricky year for them as a blended class in NYC. At first we worked on a rotating schedule a few days a week per pod. Since both pods merged we've been lucky to have 5 days a week, in person together. We have frequently had to work remotely. It has been truly impressive to watch how this group of wonderful students can roll with the ever changing shifts this year has brought us!

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as at different tables, or sitting or laying on the floor. Due to social distancing and COVID restrictions - the students need safe spaces that are comfortable and easily cleaned.

Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.

I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
