This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” - Maya Angelou. This quote from Maya Angelou is our class motto. My objective is for my students to continue to be motivated and challenged so that they can keep boosting their own confidence and achieving success to fully develop their self-potential.
I teach a group of special education students who experience learned helplessness every day because they were told that their disability hinders their learning.
In reality, all they truly need is to rediscover the joy of learning. And once that light bulb clicks, my students can bring a positive classroom energy that continually inspires and motivates others. Our school provides such a stimulating, collaborative, and safe environment for students of various differences and abilities that students are often celebrated for their diversity and achievements. I work for a school where teachers put students first.
My Project
When you walk into our classroom, you can see 35 students sprawled all over, busy at work! The students in my room love to have their own space to work, engage in discussions, and/or read independently. It is hard to do this without lots of options for cozy seating on a hard floor.
The addition of the couch and chair will allow for new seating options for my students.
They believe that this would be the perfect addition to our classroom so that they can sit together and work collaboratively during paired reading. This will provide students with a different reading experience.
In addition, the comfy couch will also be used to provide a comfortable environment when we have restorative justice circles. When the students are faced with challenges or need a break, this special furniture would provide a welcoming, safe area for my students to go to. It creates a vision of a 21st-century classroom to meet students’ individual needs, which will impact how they learn, how they interact, and their entire classroom experience.
