Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love the opportunity to work in partners and small groups when I give them the chance. Our classroom is a portable that was built in the early 90's, and does not have the best insulation or warmth in the winter months. The students love to work on the floors, but they get cold.

My students are a fun and energetic group of sixth graders.

I have them for math, science, and a core enrichment class throughout the day. Our school is a Title One school in Northern California. Our class has a fun dynamic in which we enjoy laughing a lot as we learn. I have partners assigned to each of my students so that every week they can review the concepts we are learning together with their notes, and work together. When the kids work together, they are allowed to sit wherever they are comfortable to use their whiteboards and quietly work. Many choose to lay side by side on the floor. Unfortunately, our floor gets cold since we are in an elevated portable.

My Project

I am requesting two area rugs that would offer more warmth and a comfortable work space for my students who choose to work on the floor in my room. These will provide a work space that is different than the every day desks they sit in and still allow them a place to productively get their math done when they work in partners or small groups. These will also provide a great place for them to play educational games when they get time to do so after their assigned work is completed.

With a donation of these items, I will have space for my students to stretch out more comfortably with their partners or groups and stay warm as they learn.
