Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 5th graders, seniors of the school. However, their reading levels range from kindergarten to 3rd grade. In spite of their learning disabilities, they come to class daily with a positive attitude ready to learn.

My students are super heroes, ready to take on challenges, despite the odds stacked against them.

Our classroom library is composed of chapter books geared towards 4th-6th grade readers. Some do a good job of decoding, but have a difficult time comprehending the text. Majority of the students are hands on and visual learners, but our math manipulatives are very limited. These students have great potential and if given the right tools can soar academically.

My Project

As a teacher of students with disabilities, one of my many focuses is to create an environment where students feel comfortable. Having flexible comfy floor seats in our classroom will help make the environment a little more comfortable. At times students have difficulty staying seated in the regular chairs, however, the softness of the flexy chairs will enable students to feel more comfortable, engaged, and are able to complete their work. The comfy floor seats are the light weight which allows students to use it in different areas of the classroom. During read aloud, independent reading, and math workshops students can complete different tasks and feel comfortable.

The classroom is a home away from home for many students.

It's important for students to feel comfortable to help keep them on task and motivated.
