My Students

Kindergarten was once a place where children went to socialize and learn through play experiences. Today's kindergarten looks very different, with the emphasis on academic achievement and very few opportunities for play. For some students, this can lead to boredom and behavior problems.

My students come from a wide range of backgrounds.

Some come to school with vast experiences and background knowledge, while others have had very limited educational experiences before entering kindergarten, and are unprepared for the high expectations of students entering school. However, all of these students combined are what makes my job the best job in the world! These little ones come to school excited and ready learn.

My Project

The typical kindergarten classroom is a busy place of learning with a combination of large group and small group instruction and activities. When I gather my students together for whole group learning time, it can become a bit chaotic if students do not have a clearly defined personal place to sit.

A large phonics classroom rug will give my students a clearly defined personal space to sit when we gather for whole group learning time.

Each alphabet letter & corresponding phonics picture will help the students gather and get seated quickly if they know to go to their specific, assigned spot for learning time. This will eliminate off task behaviors and conflicts over where to sit so there will be very little loss of instructional time during transitions.
