My Students

My classroom is full of joy and learning. My students come to school each day eager and excited. When they enter the room at the beginning of the year, they start at square one. Over the course of the year we build their content and social skills knowledge. They become true learners!

My school is located in one of the highest poverty areas in our nation's capital.

My students are all minority students, most of whom come from families that are in a low socioeconomic class. They are all excited to learn and the goal in my room is to grow that passion for learning to help set them up to be life-long learners. At our school, we take academics very seriously, but also believe in fostering the growth of the whole child. We build in social times throughout the day, both during lessons and during less structured time.

My Project

My students will be able to use this carpet as a whole group meeting space. This will help give them a little more movement throughout the day because they will not be stuck sitting at their tables. It also will help them to be able to focus during whole group lessons because they all will be closer to where the learning is happening. This will give me an opportunity to quickly check in with students to ensure that they are understanding what is being taught as well.

Your donations will help my students day to day by providing them with a comfortable place to sit as a whole group in the classroom.

They will be moving more throughout the day and won't just have to sit in their same plastic chairs. This will improve their focus and will help them be able to fully understand the lessons being taught. It will help ease my check-ins with students to make sure every student is getting the content needed. Overall, it will improve my students days!
