Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Close your eyes, follow your breath.", "Si se puede!", and "You don't know YET!"-phrases that you'll hear everyday in our learning classroom.

Despite the challenges many of my students face, they arrive each day ready to engage in deep learning, self-inquiry, and to be a contributing member of our loving, learning community.

The students I have the honor to support are all Latinx who are recent immigrants and/or are learning English as a second language. They are a reminder of what bravery, perseverance, and adaptability looks like. They inspire me to be my best self!

The students and families in our school reflect a rainbow of ethnicities and cultures. Our school is nestled in a city neighborhood that also reflects the school's diversity. Many of our families live near the school, making our school community an extension of our neighborhood.

My Project

Our students know and recognize how they learn best-they can tell us what conditions optimize their focus and learning.

These materials will support my students in being able to be more comfortable while engaging each other in cooperative and optimal learning.

The table, comfy floor seats, and student lap desks will allow students the choice and flexibility to sit in various ways throughout our classroom and choose the best way to learn.

The versatile furniture will create the opportunity for students to work collaboratively in building sight words with the magnetic letters, write sight-words in their journals and on the sight words practice cards. With these materials, my students will be able to deepen their English-language skills through interactive and hands-on experience while working in a comfortable space.
