Comfy and Creative Ways to Start our Mornings

Help me give my students some great interactive ways to start their mornings. We use our soft start tubs and my students really enjoyed building items. This will help them feel comfortable and confident to start their day!

My Students

We are a Title I school, we actually just became a school where all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our demographics are changing, but one thing that does not change is how excited our students are to learn. We try to keep the kids very engaged through blended learning, personalized learning, and also through departmentalized learning. I will be helping teach math to various students throughout 2nd through 5th grade. Teaching to them at the appropriate pace for each individual student. They do a lot of independent learning while I teach to small groups. My students need cozy and comfy spots to learn and work independently. We also love to build community through our 2nd through 5th grade homerooms, where we use a lot of STEM bins to start our mornings.

My Project

These materials are going to be a great addition to our classroom by increasing our options for soft starts. Currently we have a small collection per classroom, otherwise we have to share items across our building. I found my students to be very engaged in the building toys to begin their day, so that is why I decided to focus on those materials. We use them every morning, they are also a great addition to indoor recess options as well. We have a mixed grade level homeroom, so this will help students collaborate, be creative, feel safe and confident, build relationships, and so much more to get their day started off on a positive note.
