I teach a self-contained Pre-K class with 10 students who have significant developmental delays. My classroom focuses on the social and cognitive development of my students. For some of my face to face students, school is the only opportunity they have to leave their homes. I want my classroom to feel like home for them!
It is my goal as a special education teacher to have a classroom that feels like home to my students.
Overhead florescent lighting is harsh on the eyes for both the teachers and students in my classroom. I want my classroom to be a calming environment for all that enter it. They are an amazing group of children that I cherish and love. I want my classroom to be warm and inviting without overhead lights.
My Project
Fluorescent overhead lighting is overly stimulating for the students in my classroom. The lighting effects both the teachers and students in my class. The lights can cause headaches and anxiety for my students. I want my classroom to be a place that is warm and welcoming, and new lighting would help me make my classroom feel more like a home. I want my students to feel calm and peaceful when they enter my classroom. As their teacher it is my job to help provide comfort to their school day and new lighting would help me do that!
