My students have been working the hardest I have ever seen in 37 years. They have so much positive energy, kindness, and potential. Even though these kids come from a place with so little, being on a Federally Recognized Reservation, they have so much spirit, energy, and potential. They are highly motivated and love school.
What my students don't have is an ergonomically adequate computer table.
In addition, we do not have a color printer to print their self-created award certificates from their highly engaged web-based computer learning and intervention program.
My students are extremely good learners, making one and a half times the normal growth already this year. They get very excited and motivated when they earn a certificate for achieving the standards' goal. They get to design the earned certificate with colored borders, font, and designs.
My Project
My students currently sit at two small kidney-shaped tables to work on the computer. The tables are too low and not ergonomically positioned for adequate access and visibility. This makes it hard to stay on task for the required 20-minute sessions.
Students earn a certificate when they complete a learning standard and get to create it with color choices for the border, font, and graphics, but I am only able to print their creative, colorful, personal reward in black and white.
With a color laser printer, I will be able to immediately print the certificate which in turn gives them immediate gratification, inspiration, and motivation.
