I want to bring alternate seating into my classroom to promote focus and a more comfortable learning environment. These items will allow for more motion than the standard desks in a classroom. Students that struggle to stay seated may move to a standing desk, utilize floor cushions and lap desks, or move to a coffee table with bean bag chairs, or sit on new plastic school chairs. My goal is to allow my students to become accustomed to recognizing how they can learn more comfortably and use movement to their advantage. No one likes to be stuck in a desk all day.
My students come from a class with bigger class sizes, with more social emotional needs, and the right to learn in the most comfortable and safe environment I can provide for them.
In an English Language Arts classroom, it can be hard to stay focused and purposeful when it comes to learning, because there isn't a lot of room to move. With alternate seating, I can change that outlook and thus change how my students view their learning and what they learn.
