Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hard working and dedicated to their learning. They work hard everyday at home and at school. Unfortunately these hard working students do not have all the resources they need to reach their potential. Many of the families in our community are trying their best to put food on the table. We are a Title 1 school. We have a demographic of 64% of students limited English proficiency and 97% of students on Free and Reduced Lunch. They do what they can to help their child with school, but their education and language barriers limit their abilities to help.

Students thrive when they are given choices in their education.

Choices allow students to feel empowered. Alternative seating is one way to provided choices to my students. Alternative seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning in the classroom. We all don't learn the same way and students should be allowed to find what suits them best. Students being comfortable in the classroom will allow them to let down their barriers and take chances in the classroom. This will support their education from here on out.

My Project

Alternative seating will allow students to discover how they learn best. They can create their own learning environment. Comfortably sitting on soft chair to read a book, resting against a wall with a pillow and a clipboard to write a creative story are just a few ways that my students will thrive with the materials from this project.

Even in second grade, students can be taught to take charge of their learning.

This project will help my students begin to create the life long learner they choose to be. It starts with determining how you can learn best in the classroom. Asking themselves, "Do I work well with this partner sitting at the seat next to me?" "Do I work better being removed from my classmates in a quiet corner?" These are questions my students will ask when the classroom is furnished with many choices.
