Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are almost all from low income families, and most have returned to the school building this year for the first time in 18 months. My students range from honors, to English language learners, to those with learning supports.

My Project

My students have returned to school this year and need a lot of emotional support. Many come from families that experience food insecurity, and the school provided meals are all they can count on. Sometimes one school meal is not enough to satisfy children at an age where they are growing.

Students are often hungry and cannot focus on school work, and can fall behind.

They also are processing a lot of emotions from the past couple years, and seek out trusted adults for help. At this time, a small snack or some type of comfort treat helps students relax and talk about what is on their mind.
