My Students

We are a school that is home to over 600 rural students who service students not just academically but are there to foster meaningful relationships that last a lifetime. I am currently transitioning from Special Education to a 5th-grade general education position which I am more than excited about! My goal is to make sure that I am able to reach all students that come to my classroom especially students that struggle academically.

My goal is to make sure that students when they finally arrive back to school from COVID-19 they feel safe and secure, and are able to feel comfortable spending their time in my classroom.

I hope to expand their vocabulary, further their understanding of grade-level text, and show them alternative ways to make learning fun.

My Project

I have learned over the years that students come to school with so much baggage that learning is the least of their worries. I have read articles that highlight that if a student feels safe and secure, and they are comfortable in their classroom then just maybe they focus their happiness on the comforts of what reading can do. Imagine taking a student feels isolated from the world, and does not receive positive feedback at home, and him/her feeling excited to come to my classroom simply because they feel welcomed and comfortable while they immerse themselves in literature. Another teacher has all sorts of ways students can read; tables, chairs, swivel chairs, and couches. I have always admired how her classroom looks like a cute section of a book store, but without the smell of coffee brewing in the corner.

I am looking for materials for my project that allow me to make my classroom as comfortable as possible for my students so that when they walk into my classroom they feel relaxed and ready to learn.

I need swivel chairs for students that have disabilities that cannot sit still (I have a few but more are always appreciated), and alternative seating that projects a fun environment that promotes learning.
