My Project

I am an educator in a public, Pre-K program. I work in eight special education classrooms, where my students have special needs and come from low-income backgrounds. This marks my sixth year with the Department of Education, and I have a total of 15 years of experience teaching children with high needs.

I teach an incredibly lively, inquisitive, and distinctive group of kids.

My students exhibit a range of disabilities, from mild/moderate to severe. They have significant sensory and speech/language needs. Each student benefits from daily occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. Our students depend on adults to assist them with even the simplest daily living tasks.

Every morning, I feel fortunate to teach such a remarkable group of students. Their small and significant accomplishments keep me motivated and inspired. Most importantly, my professional team, who possess hearts of gold, is the driving force behind our success, fueled by love.

It is my duty to create a safe, enjoyable, and productive learning environment for my students. Each year, I purchase materials to enhance my teaching, making learning more relevant to my students. This year, we have welcomed four additional classrooms. We are in need of specialized furniture, such as cube chairs and rocking chairs. Our students excel when they learn through a multi-sensory approach and have access to flexible seating options. The vestibular sense helps detect movement through sensory receptors in the inner ear. Engaging in vestibular activities provides essential input that aids children in developing their posture, balance, and coordination. The tools and supplies for this project will significantly improve my students' academic success and independence.
