Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As many school buildings closed our online learning was brought to life. We were not given any warning as to what to grab or pass out to students. I hurriedly passed out as many tools as possible on Friday before we closed. Right now all of our learning is happening through Zoom sessions every day, prerecorded read alouds, and learning from online platforms like Zearn and Raz-Kids. Right now all my students have internet connectivity as well as Chromebooks provided by our district.
The way my students made the switch with ease shows how resilient they are and how much grit they show each day in their learning by attending our Zoom lessons.
My Project
Over our 6 months together in school I was able to read my students some memorable stories during read aloud or shared reading. My students have been rereading the books I gave them 45 days ago. These books will not support them with transitioning into beginning chapter books, and some do not have nonfiction books to practice nonfiction reading.
This donation will make a difference in my students' learning from home by providing them the opportunity to practice reading in beginning chapter books and nonfiction books that are familiar and comforting.
My students will use these books to practice reading strategies that I am still teaching them online. It will also give them something new to read and keep over the summer as their own set of books so they can continue practicing independently.
