This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach small to medium sized groups of students as an intervention teacher for multilingual learners, and we are in need of a more comfortable space to learn and work. My classroom is on the smaller side and there is no space for student tables or desks, so currently they sit on the floor without a rug or proper place to sit and work. It’s very difficult for the students to take ownership of their personal workspace when there is no designated space to actually do the work.

I would like to add a colorful rug with squares to allow students to identify their assigned spot and it will provide a bit more comfort than the well-worn carpet.

I have a few students who work better in a proper seat, which is why I am also asking for 4 floor chairs that have a back rest.

Since we primarily work on the floor, we also need proper writing surfaces and lap desks are the perfect solution. Lap desks will provide students with a sturdy surface to write on and a place to hold other school supplies.

I do have one small group table but the current stools are extremely flimsy and break easily. These new stools would be much sturdier and will allow the kids to be safe while working with me.

By providing these items, my students will be able learn more comfortably in their own space, and it will allow them to focus on the lesson better and properly demonstrate their understandings.
