I have a wonderful second grade classroom full of curious and inquisitive children. I am fortunate to work with a very involved faculty in a high-need community school.

While my students love to learn, their experiences are very limited. Many have had very little experiences outside of their neighborhood and trips to zoos, aquariums or museums are very rare. They are especially interested in all kinds of animal life and I find that it is easy to hook them into many aspects of science by studying animals.

I would love to have an aquatic ecosystem in our classroom because I think it would be a wonderful introduction to a magical world that is unknown to my students. Having hands on live animals in the classroom promotes responsibility in caring for the animals and sharpens powers of observations. Students can see first hand life cycles and how plants and animals are interdependent on each other. Having a terrific tool like this, allows me to do many cross-curriculum activities in language arts and math.

My students may not have a lot economically but they make up for that with their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Donors are able to bring magic into the classroom and enhance learning that stays with children for years to come. This project is important because it encourages real learning and exploration and not just regurgitation of facts. Pictures and movies are great but real life as a way of leaping out at you and developing life long learns. Thank you for making a difference.
