My Project

The morning meeting rug and area is the heart and soul of any early childhood classroom. It is where we gather every morning to build our classroom community, talk about what we will do for the day, write our daily message, complete our calendar, and read our stories. Ideally, all of these things would be happening, in one place, facing the same direction. Currently, we waste countless minutes getting students situated in the right place, facing the right direction, because all of the things we need are in different locations. The music player is over here because that is where the plug is. The easel is over in the corner. The big books are across the way in the other corner. The felt board is stored in back because there is no place to keep it up front and we don't pull it out as much as we should. And calendar materials, books, and other morning meeting resources are stuffed in a milk cart behind the easel.

With this all-in-one teaching center, everything students (and teachers) will need will be all in one location, and students will be able to stay facing all in one direction for the duration of the meeting.

We will be able to coast through our morning meeting with everything all in one place and maximize our instructional time not having to constantly move and find resources. We will also be able to use our classroom space more efficiently with one unit, instead of four. This will leave more room for students to engage in play and learning.
