My Students

My students live in a the city of Tulsa, the largest school district in the state. My students are very diverse. They are financially challenged, multi-lingual, come from various ethnic groups, and have been isolated and traumatized due to the difficulties of daily life and the pandemic for over 2 years as they live in the very urban part of Tulsa.

They come from many different cultures and have many different levels of learning and academic success.

I appreciate our diversified school and I love teaching our students. It is a joy to be at school together learning new things. I want to reward and encourage their effort and success.

However, although my students are eager to learn and trying their best we don't always have necessary supplies and or activities to reward their hard work. I want to create a community within the classroom where the children know they are valued by providing opportunities to be rewarded and by having fun while learning.

My Project

Our Enrichment class theme is Board Games. It is at the end of every school day. Students were given the opportunity to choose their activity and approximately 35 students chose Board games. We all meet together in my classroom to learn new skills and develop lasting relationships while playing games together .

Due to Covid students have felt isolated and traumatized but with our Board Games class students will learn coping skills to last a lifetime.

As they play games together they will learn conflict resolution,cooperation and communication skills while learning new games, making new friends and creating fun, positive memories for life.
