My Students

My students are those who are working on their second chance. The students that are in my room have found themselves in a situation that isn’t the best, but my room is where they learn to turn it around and make a lesson out of it. My room is a welcoming, non judge-mental, life lesson learning, pick yourself up by the bootstraps, the past is the past and keep moving forward, learning to become a better student, friend, and community member kind of room. I am a school counselor and work with students who greatly benefit from a non-traditional learning environment, and I am doing my best to facilitate that for each one of them!

My Project

I am requesting a heavy duty rectangular activity table for an alternative to sitting at individual desks. This non-traditional seating will help these students learn to work with peers, and allow them to benefit from a group setting. Currently we are using typical student desks, but this does not foster the cohesiveness and group dynamics that I am working to build within the classroom.

I believe that my students need to learn appropriate social skills, skills focused around executive functioning, day to day social norms, as well as participating in daily group counseling sessions based on the group needs.

I am teaching and working with students as “the whole student”, not just focusing solely on academics, and this seating will allow growth in all areas!!
