I am a fifth grade teacher at P.S. 60 in Staten Island, New York. Each year, the fifth grade students go on a field trip that encompasses not only an enjoyable experience, but also one that is tied to their curriculum. This year, we have decided to take them to the Museum of Natural History in Manhattan. The children will be funding most of their trip through fundraisers and subsidies by the PTA. Before they go, the teachers would like to do some background information on the museum and one way is to capture them with the book that stirred so much attention in the last year, "Night at the Museum". We study North America in social studies, including the Native Americans, and also biomes are a large part of their science curriculum. Both of these areas have large displays of information at the museum, to name a couple. Since my school is Title I, many of the children have never been to Manhattan and will enjoy the trip considerably. Having an enjoyable book to read beforehand will add to their experience. Many lesson plans will go into the introduction of the exhibits as well as a culminating project will be completed upon our return. I am asking for 30 copies of "Night at the Museum" so that my class will have a good bit of prior knowledge before attending the museum. Thank you for your time.
