Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is composed of 22 young minds who possess such incredible eagerness and excitement for learning. My students come from low socio-economical backgrounds and have limited English language proficiency. Their background knowledge, thus, is often limited as they have not had meaningful learning experiences of the world around them. Thus, they are often curious and amazed by the simplest of things, such as using a magnifying glass to observe ladybugs in a clear container.

Their knowledge-hungry minds demand a classroom environment where curiosity, creativity, and self-expression are the ground rules, and where failure is expected as a step towards achieving goals.

These lovely 4-year-old children are simply not afraid of making mistakes, for we have become accustomed to celebrating "failures," as failures or mistakes indicate they have learned and are ready to move on towards success- whatever the task may be.

My Project

The materials I am requesting through this project will make a difference in our classroom by allowing me to increase the resources provided in our Maker Space where students are challenged to create, experiment, "tinker", imagine, and learn through hands-on activities.

Expression through art encourages my students to be creative and innovative because, just like scientists, their little and growing minds need to be builders, inventors and particularly dreamers.

In my school we strive to create an environment of student-centered activities where they employ critical-thinking, collaboration, communication and problem-solving. These are traits that will serve them a lifetime and that they can employ now in Pre-k.
