My Project

“The person who is making the decisions is the person who is learning” (Douglas and Jaquith 9). In our maker’s space students will replicate what actual artists do. Artists use their lived experiences to create their art. Students will become makers by exploring centers throughout the classroom and using their personal experiences to create. Books will be in every center to help spur the students imagination. “Play is vital to creativity and leads to divergent thinking about new ideas that may appear in current work or resurface months later in different artworks” (Douglas and Jaquith 6).

Students choose both the content and process for their expression, relying on their artistic behaviors and seeking knowledge, as needed, to complete their work.

Our students will learn new vocabulary daily, constantly build background knowledge, all while making decisions in their educational career. Students will be introduced to artists, architects, and makers from all different cultures. They will also learn about different mediums, tools, and materials. The books I'm asking for will help aid in our students discovery in all the areas mentioned above. I can't wait to see the students explore, create, and learn through books and hands on experiences.
