Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a targeted group of disadvantaged minority students to provide support, guidance, resources, and tutorials to ensure they pass all of their classes to be eligible to attend a university. Most of my students are creative scholars that aspire to go into the field of art or engineering. They belong to pathways, or academies, with classes that focus on the arts, architecture, manufacturing, and engineering.

My ultimate goal is for my students to reach their full academic potential and improve their social-emotional well being by ensuring they have access to high quality education, support, and resources.

My school does not have a color printer. Access to a color printer will literally brighten up our classroom, mood, and make my students’ learning experience more engaging.

This year I have been able to connect with students on a deeper level. Many of my activities focus on social emotional learning and building character and self confidence. I believe it is important to display student work and projects to have students take ownership and feel pride in their creations. I also believe that acknowledging students, with their names on a bulletin board or through certificates, is important and helps improve morale. For this, the color printer is crucial. The color printer will also allow me to create visual aids and graphic organizers that make learning more engaging and accessible to all students, especially to English Learner students or students with special needs. Lastly, I will be relocating to a different classroom next year, which is currently being used for storage and is in poor shape. I believe it is important to have a learning environment that is positive and visually appealing to students. Having access to this printer will allow me to create a learning space that my students need and deserve.
