Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at a Title 1 school in Corona, Queens. 57% of the population are English Language Learners and 22% are students with special needs. I will be teaching in a fifth grade ICT classroom with 32 students.
During my time at PS 19 I have had the pleasure of teaching respectful, independent and hard working students.
I expect nothing more from my incoming students.
As you know teachers spend a lot of their own money for classroom supplies. Any help from you would be greatly appreciated!
My Project
In order to have a welcoming classroom and successful students there is a lot of work that goes into it. The classroom door needs to be decorated with the students’ names so that they feel welcomed. Important reminders and charts need to be posted for students when they need them during math, reading, and writing lessons. Access to a color printer will make this all possible.
For every unit we display the essential questions, important vocabulary, goals for the unit, etc.
in the front of the classroom. We also print resources for the students to keep on their desks and in their folders so that they can independently complete tasks. These words displayed in the classroom will become so much more meaningful in color!!
