My Project

Teens today live in a colorful, highly interactive world. Reading classic literature in black and white text does not create the same motivational incentive for students. However, reading is essential to thinking and learning. When reading novels, I give students opportunities to interact with the text and create a variety of products to show their understanding. This takes shape in the form of infographs, storyboards, posters, comic strips, etc. Students who use color to expand their thoughts about what they have read are more engaged and retain more meaning from their reading. We are beginning to read the novel, Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe. The community and culture of the African experience in this novel are extraordinary and colorful. Help students express their thoughts and understanding in vivid and colorful ways.
