Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fun-loving kids! They show up to school and our virtual-classroom ready and eager to begin the day's lesson and activity. They are professional little humans, learning in two languages, who up for any task. They love music, recess, math, challenges, and working collaboratively. They have a gift at making everyone, adults included, feel welcome and respected.

Many of my students come from low-income households and don't have the essential school supplies at home.

They live in a rural community that has a "small town" feeling. We are a Title I school and offer free and reduced breakfast and lunch to our families, which are now remotely served. Many of my students attended the afterschool program where they were able to immerse themselves in arts and crafts and tutoring support. Unfortunately, as of March 16th, our school has been closed, due to the COVID-19 virus, and all art projects have ceased.

My Project

Since March 13, my students and I have been out of the classroom. Distance learning has had its ups and downs but is very different from regular school. My student teacher and I have done many virtual activities and tried doing some art lessons but quickly realized that our students have limited school supplies and almost zero art materials. In addition to that, our students are spending incredibly large quantities of screen time. I would love to supply them with materials so they can enjoy some non-screen activities during this time, and over the summer.

I have picked out a few art materials I know will bring much joy and excitement to my students, including their own set of Crayola Watercolors, Crayola Twistable Colored Pencils, and cardstock paper that will allow them to beautifully display their art.
