My Project
I am a lucky teacher to work with a bunch of amazing students in Casper, WY. I am a tutor, which means that I spend most of my day working with struggling readers.
Children, especially ones that struggle with reading, often times, need an incentive to want to read a book.
A cozy, colorful, “magically inviting” comfy chair can be exactly what he/she needs as an incentive to read, read, read!! Sometimes, it’s just something “little”, like a fun chair, to get a child to be willing to pick up a book and read the words inside of it! Once I can get the child “hooked” on the idea of reading, I begin to develop better, faster and stronger readers!
I can personally attest to these "facts" as I was so very lucky to get a donation for some similar seating and the kids are "begging" for opportunities to read from the "knowledge building" book bin. The downfall is that I have considerably less seating than I have students, so kids often have to wait a few days for a turn with a comfy, cozy seat.
As everyone well knows, it is difficult to be successful in life if you aren’t a fluent reader. It is imperative that students are strong readers by the end of third grade, or, as research indicates, they often times do not succeed in every becoming a proficient reader. I would be most appreciative of your donation to fund my project for “comfy chairs” so that I can give my students an incentives to want to read, read, read!
