Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a low socio economic background. My students are primarily African American and Hispanic, single parent households.

They are sixth graders who are in transitional years.

They are adjusting to a big change in their lives, becoming more responsible for their actions and their choices. They have to learn how to leave the nest of their self contained classrooms of elementary and adjust to the fast paced life of middle school. They are burdened with not only home pressures but the pressures of becoming a teenager.

My Project

In elementary, students are spoiled by their librarian and their teachers (I know, I used to teach elementary!).

I want to make choosing books easier for middle school students.

In middle school, student are responsible for going to the library themselves, on their own time. A lot of our students are reluctant readers and so they are not lining up to take the initiative to go to the library.

I replenish my classroom yearly to have the best books available to my students. Having the classroom library color coded will be more visually pleasing to the student and make choosing reading material easier and faster.
