My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to believe in themselves the way I do. The students in my classroom are comprised of general education students, as well as students with various learning and emotional disabilities. On top of educational and emotional disabilities, many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school.

With that being said, how can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed?

The typical student in my class reads below grade level and many struggles with basic phonics and number sense. Their desire to achieve success in school is the driving force behind our desire to give them the world.

My Project

With in person learning, remote learning and the changing structure of schools, students will their own individual supplies and toolkits. A color printer will help to make these learning materials more engaging to young students. As a special education classroom social stories are a major part of our teaching. A color printer will help to make these stories more appealing.

In a school year in which school and social distancing rules are new and changing, students need the gentle reminders through print materials.

A color printer will make these posters engaging for the students. Colorful materials and posters catch the eye of students and become part of their learning experience and not just a decoration.
