This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In Algebra, students often enter multiple equations to assess how a graph has shifted or solved a system. On black & white screen calculators, it's difficult to tell which equation goes with which table and graph. Color-screen graphing calculators help students match equations, tables and graphs by color coding them. For example, a blue equation goes with the blue table and the blue graph, and a red equation goes with the red table and the red graph. This is an extremely helpful scaffold, especially for visual learners and most students who receive special education services.

Additionally, calculator access for at-home practice is a significant equity issue.

Students from wealthier families typically have their own graphing calculator and therefore can use it to practice math at home. However, most students at our school are from low-income households and don't have their own. We'll loan them one for 4 years to facilitate at-home math practice.
