My Students

Our culturally diverse classroom is comprised of 19 children who love to learn. Each day, we spend time reading beloved stories, including classic fairy tales or books the children find that they can't wait to share with the whole class. With our minds brimming with inspiration, we move on to making our own books! The children are just learning to write sentences and feel so empowered when they discover they can read or write *real words* like "see" or "the!" The excitement the children have for learning is contagious and has lead to our associate principal frequently peeking in with a smile just to see what the kids are working on with such joy.

Our classroom is a loving space where we all bring our selves just as we are, and we feel grateful to have each other.

Student's cultures and unique gifts are honored and celebrated in our classroom, and we are proud to share five different languages! Fridays are among our favorite days, as we close our week with a family member coming in to read stories of different cultures, sometimes in two languages! Our classroom is truly a special place, and we look forward to each day.

My Project

Kindergarten is a space full of vivid imagination, rich curiosity, and immerse joy. The walls are covered with colorful artwork made by the students and eye-catching charts to help them learn! The children and I have worked together to co-create a beautiful classroom in which we can learn and prosper. It all runs like a well-oiled machine until it comes to the paper books we use to supplement their learning, photographs of the children, and materials for games...then our bright, imaginative world turns dim. We rely exclusively on a temperamental black and white printer.

I desperately a color printer to carry over the rich, colorful beauty the children and I create by hand into equally beautiful printed books, photographs of the students, and literacy games, essential for their growth as readers and writers.

The children have such a positive attitude and are so eager to learn that they make the best of what we have. But, at four, five and six years old, they truly rely on pictures to help them learn and providing them with black and white outlines of colorful images feels heartbreaking. Please help our kindergarten class get a color printer so that we can bring the well-deserved beauty of color into their work.
