My Students

I work as a special education teacher in my school, currently in an Integrated Co-Teaching setting. My students fit in at least one of the following categories: special needs, English language learners, and/or low income households.

Throughout my years as a teacher in my school, I have learned that my students are mainly visual learners and get engaged with any color and visual materials.

The important thing we need to reach the students in my school is to get them engaged, to make the lesson fun, and to have accessible materials. Sometimes it is very difficult, being that they have little to no knowledge of the English language, have a disability that affects their learning, and don't have much access to equipment at home, such as a computer or printer. I always need to think "outside the box" to support and enhance my students' education.

My Project

As a special education teacher, I feel that to make my classroom more accessible, a color printer would be a great addition to my classroom. This will not only benefit students' needs and learning styles, but all subjects taught in the elementary classroom (ELA, Math, Writing, Social Studies, and Science.)

My students would benefit greatly with a color printer, from teacher-made color materials to support a lesson, colorful visuals and photos, color posters/handouts, and projects, to even being able to have simple instant access to printing documents right when needed, even if last-minute.

I will need a color printer and a set of ink to be able to provide these materials and access to color printing. Black and white print is not enough for my students who learn differently from others. Not only will color printing/materials help my students understand concepts better, but it will be engaging for them to be hooked onto the lessons. A splash of color means everything!
