Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has been impacted by rapid change,large budget cuts, changes in leadership. Our business program continues to survive but we need updated equipment. At this point we are clapping with one hand.

Our school is a large, diverse multicultural one that serves an urban population.

Most students receive free lunch and are devoid of the finer things in life. My students are mostly recent immigrants or the sons and daughters of immigrants who are trying to achieve "The American Dream" like many who came before them. They are driven and goal orientated who have seen their school passed by in terms of updates and increased technology. At this point my students are used to doing more with less, but would love to even more with just a little bit added to that 'less'.

My Project

I would like a new printer to allow our students to create and distribute more professional and up to date materials to our potential customers. We operate an actual online magazine within the Virtual Enterprise International Network. VEI replicates all the functions of real businesses in both structure and practice. Under the guidance of a teacher-facilitator and business mentors, students create and manage their virtual businesses from product development, production and distribution to marketing, sales, human resources, accounting/finance and web design. What separates us from many other schools is that actually produce a real product; our online magazine. Please visit us at venewhorizons.wordpress.com. Marketing is a large part of our virtual company, the ability to produce professional materials that will be distributed around the world not only increases our chance for success but will help build self-esteem among my students.

My students need to see that the school system has not failed them.

They need to understand that they have not been lost in the red tape of a bureaucratic system that at times seems to have lost it's educational purpose. My students want to become productive, responsible and reliable parts of nation. Knowing that people and entities do care will in fact demonstrate to my students that they do matter and that many outside the school system do in fact care if they succeed or fail. Thank you.
