This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in grades k-2, with moderate to severe autism or other developmental disabilities. While distance learning has been challenging for all students, it has been especially so for the students I work with, due to maladaptive behaviors, short attention spans or overall difficulty with concentration. One of the things that I have been doing is taking aspects of our curriculum (Unique Learning System) and making it more hands-on using printed lessons that are laminated and velcroed in order to make them more hands on. While it involves some time and effort on my part, it is worth the effort, as it truly does help them to focus and eliminate some of the distracting factors in the online program

My Project

I am hoping to get a new color printer and rolls of velcro for my students. While we use an adapted curriculum for the students in my classroom due to their exceptional needs, sometimes it isn't enough to help them to be able to focus on the concepts I am trying to teach. By printing laminating and using velcro, I am able to isolate concepts and make it easier for them to focus make projects more hands-on, and to be able to provide the repetition that they need in order to master concepts
