This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love learning and exploring new things! In our Artist Study unit, we learn about Georgia O'Keefe and students make a "Georgia O'Keefe" inspired watercolor painting for their moms. Each year, the colors in the sets get more and more mixed together and some of the colors are now almost out.

I would like to give them opportunities to enhance their artistic skills with watercolors through the use of watercolor pencils as well as give them academic experiences while they explore watercolor.

Watercolor pencils are a great way to introduce students to watercolor as an art form. They can be used like regular colored pencils. They are easier for me to pull out and let the kids explore watercolor more often since they are portable and less messy. I plan to use the watercolor pencils in a variety of way- at writing, it will be a novel way for them to illustrate their stories and practice writing letters, words, and sentences, during developmental play, it will be an exciting choice for the kids to creating paintings while exploring how to blend and shade naturally.
