My Students

Can you image Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel in shades of black and gray only? The color printer no longer works properly and students have to print their paintings, drawings, and special projects using a non-color printer. All of the brilliance of the color is lost from the monitor to the paper.

My sixth and seventh grade boys and girls are an amazing group of youngsters.

They attend a New York City public middle school of approximately 1,200 students. My classes are composed of students from various ethnic, religious, economic and racial backgrounds. In addition my classes include general education, gifted and special education students. Due to the varied skill and ability of the students, they are encouraged to work with each other and help each other on individual and group projects.

My Project

A working color printer is vital to the computer lab. My students create amazing, brilliant paintings on the computer. They also use the digital camera, taking pictures in and around the school which are used for acrostic poems and creative essays. The students create colorful and amazing graphic organizers. Each year my seventh graders produce impressive PowerPoint projects on career exploration which culminate with the creation of colorful and dazzling business cards. Color and computer graphics motivate and inspire students on their technology projects, and they are always so proud of their final products and projects. Unfortunately, all the brilliance and vivid colors are lost from the computer screen to the hard copy as the the black and gray printouts for the students' portfolios are dull and disappointing to the student.

A new color printer will produce accurate copies of students' work.

Students will be provided with printouts with which they will be proud of. They will not be disappointed with the final copies. The students' portfolios will be filled with bright and colorful printouts not drab black and gray printouts. Computer graphics should not be lost in printing process.
